FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

Have you one or two lingering questions about wood floor sanding and finishing in Hackney E5? No doubt you do, so here’s a list of the ones we’ve encountered most often down the years. Hopefully yours will be here as well, but if not please contact us to ask away and we’ll of course be delighted to assist.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

A room of average size such as a lounge or bedroom or hallway will take a day to sand. This can include anything up to three sandings depending on its condition, as well as any repairs that have to be carried out to the floor before sanding can start. At the Hackney floor sanding company E8 we use equipment which is practically dust-free, so there won’t be any mess to speak of.

The job could take a little longer if we need to replace rotten floorboards or tackle that dodgy sub-floor, but you’ll be made fully aware of the time frame before we get down to the work.

After the sanding has finished the varnish, wax or oil will be applied, which will take another day, and this will need to be left to fully cure before you can move furniture back in or walk on the floor.

I'M PRETTY HANDY WITH A HAMMER. CAN I NOT DO IT ALL MYSELF?

An experienced DIY enthusiast might feel able to tackle anything, both for personal satisfaction and to save some money. We must advise, however, that floor sanding and finishing is a skilled job and should be left to professionals. The Hackney wood floor sanding and finishing team have decades of experience and use the very latest equipment to do this work.

In Hackney, thousands of commercial and residential customers have got the results they dreamed of having by calling on the services of the Hackney floor sanding experts. Our machines, unlike those from hire stores, are beautifully maintained and have the latest dust-eliminating features. In the hands of our specialists they make short and expert work of the most stubborn floor and bring it back to pristine life.

WILL THERE BE A RIGHT OLD MESS FOR ME TO DEAL WITH AFTERWARDS?

Our high-tech equipment not only sands the roughest wooden flooring to smooth perfection, but also retains practically all of the dust given off. Add to this the fact that we seal other rooms off as we sand and that we thoroughly clean up afterwards, and the short answer to the question is that there will simply be no mess.

WHAT IF I'M SENSITIVE TO SOME STAINING PRODUCTS?

Our complete range of varnishes, waxes, stains and seals are eco-friendly and there is not a trace of the harmful chemicals that often provoke allergic reactions in people. We have a strict green policy to keep the risk of irritation right down to a minimal level.

Also, if you or others in the property suffer from hay fever or related conditions you’ll be much better off having a wooden floor sanded down and finished by us than by having fitted carpets. Dust mites love carpets to lay their eggs in, and the mites provoke the reaction, so ditching the carpet is the best course of action. Mites hate clean, finished wood and will never torment you again! Lay a few attractive rugs instead, which can easily be washed and hung out to dry on a regular basis.

HOW CAN MY REALLY AWFUL FLOORBOARDS POSSIBLY BE BROUGHT BACK TO LIFE?

Don’t worry if your bare wooden floorboards look like they belong in a horror film. Our experience is that it is often the grime and dried paint which is actually protecting the underlying wood. Strip this away and you have a fantastic patch of flooring which is all ready to take the finish of your choice. Dried paint and solidified grime stop rot setting in, which is the real killer and which usually necessitates the replacement of individual boards. But even this is all in a day’s work for us, so basically no floor is beyond redemption.

WILL THERE BE GREAT UPHEAVAL?

We keep disruption to a minimum, and in the case of schools and business we can work outside of normal office hours and during school holidays. Contact us to find out more.
